Cope's Gray Treefrog (H. chrysocelis) is one of the more common treefrogs in Southern Indiana. They range in color from gray,green,brown, and almost black. They are often confused with the Eastern Gray Treefrog (H. versicolor), and are distinguished by that species by their difference sounding mating call. Additionally, H. versicolor is not found south of Indianapolis.
Here in Southern Indiana, the summer nights are enhanced by the call of these beautiful little amphibians. They have even been known to overwinter in Angrulla MF's home, hitching rides on her ficus trees or other plants.
I have been creating art for 20+ years in Southern Indiana using graphite pencils, colored pencils, acrylic paint, and watercolor. A large majority of my artwork depicts nature. I do not think that an artist needs to constrain his/herself to only one style of art or medium type. Ultimately, it is the act of creating something that the artists finds pleasing and then sharing that with others that is truly art. I find it sad that artists segregate themselves into groups that are intolerant of changes. With that said, having been taught traditional and purist art techniques, I have chosen to learn from that and go a different direction. Glad you think so too! The reference photo I took a few years ago there was a trio of these treefrogs in a monitoring well cap! I wanted to remember them in photo before I had safely relocated them to some nearby trees.
