Artist's Description

Lightening bugs light up the field under a night sky.

Lightening bugs, aka fireflies or glowworms, use bioluminescence in their abdomens to attract a mate and/or prey. Depending on the species, their bioluminescene emits yellow, green, or pale red light frequencies. In the U.S., amongst most species of fireflies, only the males fly. In the Smokey Mountains, phenomenon known as phase synchronization occurs, where large groups of fireflies flash at the same time.

I have been creating art for 20+ years in Southern Indiana using graphite pencils, colored pencils, acrylic paint, and watercolor. A large majority of my artwork depicts nature. I do not think that an artist needs to constrain his/herself to only one style of art or medium type. Ultimately, it is the act of creating something that the artists finds pleasing and then sharing that with others that is truly art. I find it sad that artists segregate themselves into groups that are intolerant of changes. With that said, having been taught traditional and purist art techniques, I have chosen to learn from that and go a different direction.
