Artist's Description

Payne's Gray Treefrogs are common here in Southern Indiana. In the summer, their sweet melodic croakings fill the night air. Treefrogs are amphibians, and as such, their eyes and skin must remain moist. Frogs' eyes are located closer to the top of their heads and their outward bulging shape allows each eye to have almost a 180 degree field of vision. Frogs have a third eyelid called a nictating membrane that moves horizontally across their eye and helps remove debris. When a frog eats, its eyes help to move food down the throat by retracting into the frog's head. Additionally, frogs are nearsighted above water and farsighted underwater. A frog can be surrounded by prey but can't see it unless the prey moves.

When I was in Costa Rica in 2005, the sheer variety of frogs and eye color among all the species was astounding. Frogs truly are amazing creatures!

With that said, having been taught traditional and purist art techniques, I have chosen to learn from that and go a different direction. I have been described as a woman of many interests, talents, and hobbies. My artwork reflects my...
